Mark Saxby started the 2017-2018 season on the Comets reserve squad. He got his break on February 9, 2018 as an emergency goalkeeper after the Comets starting goalkeeper rotation were unavailable due to injury.

He started his collegiate career at Johnson County Community College. He made 19 appearances in 2009, making 72 saves and even earning NJCAA Player of the Week as he helped his team to a 13-6 record.

Saxby joined Benedictine University and immediately joined their starting rotation. He started 36 games for the Ravens. He amassed a 26-9-1 record in his Benedictine career, including 9 shutouts in his 2011 season.
