Rodriguez Earns Honorable Mention

KANSAS CITY (Dec. 6, 2016) – The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced the Week Six Team of the Week this afternoon and it included several Comets. After their 6-0 win against the previously unbeaten Chicago Mustangs, the league named Stephen Paterson as the Goalkeeper of the Week while John Sosa was the lone defender on the team. Midfielder Lucas Rodriguez was named honorable mention.

This is the second time Paterson has earned a spot on this list. Paterson faced 19 shots on Saturday night against the Mustangs and stopped them all. He recorded the first shutout for the Comets since the team returned to action in 2010 and the first in Kansas City arena soccer since 2005.

Sosa contributed two assists to the Comets win on Saturday and led the team with 3 blocks to help preserve the shutout victory.

The rest of the list included midfielders Gordy Gurson (Cedar Rapids Rampage), Ian Bennett (Milwaukee Wave) and forwards Max Ferdinand (Milwaukee Wave) and Kraig Chiles (San Diego Sockers).

Comets fans can help choose the MASL’s Player of the Week by voting for Paterson, Sosa or any other member of the Team of the Week at

The Comets have two games this weekend, traveling to Cedar Rapids to face Gurson and the Rampage on Saturday at 7:05 p.m. CT and then coming home to the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena on Sunday against the Baltimore Blast at 5:05 p.m. CT.
