The Chicago Mustangs were the premiere team in the former PASL and have been one of the MASL’s elite since the league was formed in 2014. They have finished in the top three of the Central Division and qualified for the post-season each year.

The team started off strong last year, taking victory in 11 of their first 13 games. In December the team signed Mexican legend, Adolfo “Bofo” Bautista. The star played in 11 games and racked up 18 goals and 6 assists, including 4 game-winning goals.

However, down the stretch the team struggled to finish out games and only won two out of their last seven games, then losing in three games to the Milwaukee Wave in the opening round of the playoffs.

This year, head coach Armando Gamboa is building around Bofo, defender Ephraim Beard and forward Wilo Martinez. Of that group, Martinez may be the most important building block. He led the team in goals scored last season. His knack for finding the net is only rivaled by his ability to get under the skin of his opponents. He has continuously found a way to frustrate the defenders he faces into making mistakes, sometimes leading to penalties.
