Comets set to make playoff run with veteran goalkeeper

KANSAS CITY (January 26, 2018) – The Kansas City Comets announced today the addition of goalkeeper Jeff Richey to the team’s roster. The indoor soccer veteran joins the team immediately and is expected to be available for selection in Sunday’s match against the Cedar Rapids Rampage.

Richey is a long-time veteran of the indoor game. Since 2009 he has played in 80 games and amassed a .747 save percentage while playing with several teams in the Midwest. Comets fans will recognize him from his days with the Chicago Riot, Chicago Soul, St. Louis Ambush and most recently, the Milwaukee Wave in 2014-2015.

In addition to his indoor soccer experience, Richey also has represented the United States on multiple occasions as a member of the U.S. National Futsal Team.

“Jeff (Richey) has been one of the league’s best goalkeepers since he started playing indoor soccer,” said head coach Kim Roentved. “I’m happy that he was available and willing to come play with us as we head down the stretch.”

The Comets will host the Cedar Rapids Rampage this Sunday, January 28 at 5:05 p.m. CT for Star Wars Night. Richey is expected to make his Comets debut in that match. The first 1,000 fans at Sunday’s match will receive a free Comets Star Wars T-Shirt.
