Kansas City Comets

Six different players score for the Comets in loss

KANSAS CITY (December 16, 2017) – The Kansas City Comets traveled to the U.S. Cellular Center to face the Cedar Rapids Rampage for the second straight week. Lucas Rodriguez scored his first hat trick of the season, while Anthony Grant, Andre Braithwaite an Nacho Flores each chipped in with two goals apiece. Unfortunately, the Rampage offense was too much for the Comets defense and they end up with the 14-11 loss.

The opening quarter started out rough for the Comets as they found themselves down 2-0 in the first five minutes of the game. Braithwaite’s first goal broke up the Rampage attack momentarily, but Cedar Rapids knocked in two more before the end of the period to lead 4-1 at the first break.

The Comets started off the second quarter with four straight goals from Braithwaite, Flores, Grant and Rodriguez. After Rodriguez scored, the Comets briefly held a 5-4 lead. That would only last for 1 minute and 15 seconds though. The Rampage finished the half with three straight goals of their own and took a 7-5 lead into halftime.

In the third quarter, Odaine Sinclair scored his first goal of the season, bookended by two from Rodriguez. The Comets and Rampage would alternate goals though and Kansas City was still behind by two, as they went into the fourth quarter down 10-8.

The Rampage got some separation with two goals to open the fourth quarter, but the Comets got two straight Milan Ivanovic and Anthony Grant to get back within two with 6:40 to play in the game. As the Comets tried to complete their comeback, the team pulled goalkeeper Steven Hamersky in lieu of a 6th Attacker. Kansas City was able to knock one in with the extra attacker, but Cedar Rapids was able to score two without a goalkeeper, sealing the Comets 14-11 loss.

The Comets will return to Kansas City to face the Milwaukee Wave on Friday, December 22nd at 7:35 p.m. Tickets are still available for the match here.
