Defending champs were too much for Comets in 15-8 loss

KANSAS CITY (January 13, 2018) – The Kansas City Comet came into tonight’s game with the confidence of a two-game winning streak and scoring 20 goals in their past seven quarters of play. However, after the Comets took an early lead in the game, the defending Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) champion Baltimore Blast took over the knocked off the Comets 15-8.

The first quarter saw action go back and forth with each side getting their chances. The Comets seemed to be gaining momentum as they started to control more and more of the possession. In the tenth minute it paid off as Anthony Grant opened up the game’s scoring with a high shot from the right side.

The rest of that period, along with the second and third quarters, belonged to the Blast. They scored five straight goals before Nacho Flores broke up their offensive pressure to make it 5-2. Then Baltimore scored the next four goals, giving them a 9-2 lead midway through the 3rd quarter. Each team scored a goal in the final minutes of the third to make it 10-3 as the teams headed into the final quarter.

Turning the sixth attacker, the Comets scored five straight goals to briefly cut the lead to 10-8. After that, the Blast were able to solve the Comets sixth attacker and put the game away with five goals to close the game and seal the victory, 15-8.

The Comets will have to move on right away as they head to Lakeland, Florida tomorrow to face the Florida Tropics. That match kicks off at 6:35 p.m. CT and will be streamed live on KCComets.com.

The team returns home to face the Cedar Rapids Rampage on January 28th at 5:05 p.m. CT. The Comets will be celebrating Star Wars Night at that match with the first 1,000 fans receiving a limited edition Comets Star Wars T-Shirt courtesy of Cryo Clinic Midwest.
