Bryan Perez leads Comets with two goals in losing effort

KANSAS CITY (January 20, 2018) – The Kansas City Comets will head home from their east coast road trip with two losses in as many nights as they fall 7-6 to the Florida Tropics at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, FL.

Defensive mistakes were the problem for Kansas City tonight as the Comets gave up five goals in the first half. Kansas City’s captain Bryan Perez was able to put the team on the board in the 1st quarter. Leo Gibson stood on the ball on the far-right wall and found Perez streaking to the middle of the field. Perez collected the pass from Gibson and buried it to the corner.

Down 5-1 heading into the 2nd half, the Comets tried to catch the Tropics off guard with a high-pressure offense that could open offensive opportunities for them. It began to work as Anthony Grant, Perez and Gibson each rattled off scores to cut the lead to 5-4.

Unfortunately for the Comets, Florida scored two goals within a minute and a half of each other midway through the fourth quarter. Kansas City stormed back with two more goals at the end of the game, with the final score coming only 8 seconds before the end of regulation. It wasn’t enough though and the Comets end up on the wrong side of the 7-6 score.

The team returns home to face the Cedar Rapids Rampage on January 28th at 5:05 p.m. CT. The Comets will be celebrating Star Wars Night at that match with the first 1,000 fans receiving a limited edition Comets Star Wars T-Shirt courtesy of Cryo Clinic Midwest.
