Kim Roentved returns to lead Kansas City

KANSAS CITY (November 3, 2017) – The Kansas City Comets will open the 2017-2018 season when they take on the St. Louis Ambush Saturday November 4 with kickoff scheduled for 7:05 p.m. at Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. The Comets and the Ambush last met three times last year with Kansas City winning all three matches by an aggregate of 26-14.


Kansas City finished the 2016-2017 season with 15 wins and five losses locking up the central division for the third straight year. They lost to the Milwaukee Wave in the divisional round. The Ambush finished fifth in the central division and failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Comets return veteran forward Leo Gibson who has been with the team since it returned in 2010. Gibson leads the team in both regular-season goals and assists with 159 and 143, respectively. Also returning from last years’ squad is midfield duo Lucas Rodriguez and Bryan Perez as well as Guerrero Pino and Ignacio Flores- two players who will look to build on an impressive rookie season. Stefan Stokic, an original player with 124 appearances will also return.

Three former Comets will return to the team the first being Pat Kelly who spent the past two seasons with the Cedar Rapids Rampage after a stint with the team in the 2014-2015 season. Kiel Williams, who was also on that team that went undefeated in the regular season, will return as well. Finally, defender Kevin Ten Eyck makes his return to the team

Several new faces will join the squad this season, including forward Anthony Grant, goalkeeper Casey Gasson, and defenders Alvie Beltran and Mirko Sandivari.

The Kansas City Comets open their eighth season at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena this Saturday as they face off against their cross-state rivals, the St. Louis Ambush. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. CT and tickets can be purchased here.
