Kansas City Comets vs Milwaukee Wave Game Notes

Week two of the Major Arena Soccer League sees the Kansas City Comets taking on their traditional rival, the Milwaukee Wave. Since the Comets returned in 2010, they have faced Milwaukee more than any other team. They also have more wins (14) against the Wave than any other team in that time span.

While the Comets are coming off a disappointing loss in their opener last week, this will be Milwaukee’s first game of the season. Their 13-7 record last season was enough to qualify for the MASL Playoffs, but the Central Division champion Comets ended their season in a two game quarterfinal series.

Milwaukee head coach Guiliano Oliveiro’s team has a much younger look this year, but returns forward Ian Bennett and Marcio Leite. Both players have traditionally played some of their best games against the Comets.

Last week marked the debut of Kansas City’s rookie trio of Guerrero Pino, Ignacio “Nacho” Flores and Carlos Trombini. While all three made contributions, Pino was able to score a highlight worthy goal off a lobbing pass from John Sosa. Head coach Goran Karadzov is hoping to see more of that from his young team.

“We are young,” said Karadzov. “When you’re young you have the chance to get better every game. Milwaukee is young too, but they have some veterans who really lead the way. Hopefully we can come out and perform the way we know we can and get the win.”

The Kansas City Comets kick off against the Milwaukee Wave at 7:35pm CT at the Silverstein Eye Centers Arena. Tickets are available by calling 855.452.4625 or online at
