Kansas City’s comeback was snuffed as they fell to the 10-0 Milwaukee Wave

Milwaukee, WI (December 31, 2017) The Kansas City Comets fell to the Milwaukee wave 4-6 on Sunday night in the teams’ final game of 2017. The Comets drop to 2-8 on the season. Bright spots included the debut and goal of Mirko Sandivari as well as goals by Leo Gibson, Andre Braithwaite and Anthony Grant. Milan Ivanovic tallied 3 assists on the night. Wave midfielder Ian Bennett had a hat trick and one assist.

The first quarter saw several saves from goalkeeper Casey Gasson to keep the game scoreless. However, the shutout ended 10:27 into the quarter when Bennett scored during the run-of-play. The Comets were able to keep the Wave to that one goal.

The second quarter was much of the same with goalkeepers coming up big to earn saves. The Wave added a second goal 4:18 in, but the Comets pulled one back as the rookie Sandivari took one off the wall and sent it in. It was the Chilean-born defender’s debut and his first MASL goal. The rest of the quarter saw both teams with dangerous chances, but the half ended with the Comets down 1-2.

Each team scored two goals in the third quarter. Milwaukee extended the lead with a Robert Renaud brace, but the Comets fought back to keep the deficit at 1. Braithwaite scored the 6th goal of his comeback season. 38 seconds later, Grant added another one to pull Kansas City back within a goal.

The fourth quarter, however, saw the Wave pull away as they added two more goals in 8 minutes. While Gibson was able to pull one back with less than two minutes left, the Comets ran out of time and fell to Milwaukee 4-6.
