Positions we are currently seeking to fill include the following:


All Kansas City Comets internships are unpaid. The internships allow the individual to gain valuable experience with a professional organization for their future in the sports, entertainment and marketing industry. Hours can be flexible to accommodate with your school or work schedule. Attendance at home games is required. Candidates must have authorization to work in the U.S.A. Communications/Editorial: The Kansas City Comets are looking for communications/editorial interns to assist the Digital Media and Communications department. The communications/editorial intern will assist with the day to day objectives of the Digital Media and Communications Department.

Job Duties:

  • Assist in writing, editing and publishing content for web
  • Assist in developing storylines and writing articles
  • Assist communications department with production of game notes
  • Assist the communications department on game days to conduct and transcribe interviews, write articles and other related duties
  • Other duties and projects as assigned.


  • Applicants should be working towards an undergraduate or graduate degree with an emphasis in journalism, communications or related field.
  • Excellent journalistic writing skills
  • Experience covering a beat for school paper, magazine, online publication, etc.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings, weekends and holidays
  • Ability to travel to various events around the community
  • Strong computer skills to include InDesign, Excel, Word

Graphic Design

The Graphic Design Intern will be responsible for assisting the front office in creating innovative, visually impactful designs that maintain the continuity and integrity of the Kansas City Comets brand across both traditional and interactive media. These media include official team publications, sales collateral, marketing materials, digital/web graphics, email campaign design, logos, etc. This position balances creative thinking with a basic understanding of marketing and brand management, and requires a diverse skill set and the ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the layout, design and production of official team publications and other promotional materials.
  • Assist with all graphic design/production for presentations, website and marketing materials.
  • Adapt design elements to carry out the continuity of the Comets brand throughout all collateral.
  • Prepare final layouts for print and assist during the production process.
  • Support Digital Content department with various graphics to be used across the team’s web and social media properties.
  • Assist/support on-location and in-studio during photo shoots and special events.

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • A degree in or currently studying graphic design or a related field.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize projects and multi task.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends as directed by game and events schedule.
  • Intermediate skill set and knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite and other graphic design technologies. Also working knowledge of HTML and CSS preferred.
  • Background in some or all of the following fields would be appreciated but not required: journalism, social media and video production.
  • Ability to take initiative, be involved, be active and be creative. Suggest new ideas and think outside of the box.
  • Self starter.
  • Passion for sports and specifically soccer.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Team oriented

Video Production: The Kansas City Comets are looking for video production interns to assist the Digital Media and Communications department. The video production intern will assist with the day to day objectives of the Digital Media and Communications Department.

Chosen candidate(s) will explore inner workings of a professional sports team’s video needs in terms of content development, logistics, production and distribution. Candidate will learn how to engage the Comets fan base through multi-media platforms.

Job Duties:

  • Produce highlight package for each Kansas City Comets home game
  • Shoot and produce interview segments in conjunction with Comets broadcaster
  • Assist in production of Comets promotional videos
  • Enhance the Comets’ online video presence
  • Help manage Comets video archive
  • Coordinate team video production needs with Comets staff
  • Work home games and events as necessary
  • Perform other duties as assigned in the areas of media relations


  • Experience with non-linear editing programs
  • Strong creative, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Candidate should be an undergraduate or graduate student pursuing related degree
  • Understanding of the game of soccer recommended; experience in sports preferred, but not necessary
  • Ability to work flexible hours including nights and weekends

Gameday/Operations: The Comets are looking for energetic individuals who are seeking a hands-on internship working for a professional sports team. This internship will provide an experience that will gain exposure in sales, customer service, and overall game-day experience. From this opportunity you will gain valuable skills, contacts and experience vital to beginning a career in the exciting field of professional sports.

Qualifications: Candidates must possess superior organizational skills and be able to function in a fast-paced setting. In addition, strong candidates will have the ability to multi-task efficiently, pay close attention to detail and possess excellent oral/ written communication skills. The ability to be punctual and follow a schedule is very important. Candidates must be available for a majority of the Comets season (Nov. through March). Candidates must have a working knowledge of the following Microsoft Office programs: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and internet research. Interns must be able to work well with others.
