Rodriguez Will Represent Team USA in St. Louis

KANSAS CITY (June 6, 2017) – The Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) announced today that Kansas City Comets midfielder Lucas Rodriguez has been selected to play in the MASL International Challenge on June 16th in St. Louis.

The special exhibition match, which will be in a “US versus the World” format, is slated for Friday, June 16 at 7:35 p.m. CT at the Family Arena in St. Charles, Missouri. Both players will participate on the US roster in the game.

Rodriguez hails from Buenos Aries, Argentina, moving to Lenexa, Kansas at age 11. His six professional indoor seasons have all been spent with the Comets. He earned the Major Indoor Soccer League’s Rookie of the Year honor in 2010-11 and has been a mainstay in the Comets’ lineup each season since. He posted 14 goals, five assists and 11 blocks last season.

Rodriguez is the second Comets player selected to play in the MASL International Challenge. Defender John Sosa was announced as part of the USA squad last month.

More players will be announced in the coming days. Each MASL team was invited to nominate their players for the International Challenge match and the International Challenge committee has selected the rosters.

Leading up to this year’s International Challenge, the St. Louis Ambush will host the 2017 MASL Player Combine on Friday, June 16 from 2:00 p.m. CT to 6:00 p.m. CT. The Combine will give potential players from all over the chance to work out in front of coaches and team representatives from across the league, and have the chance to earn an invite to a preseason MASL camp.

Four players from the combine will also be selected to participate in the International Challenge game that night. For more information and registration for the combine, visit stlambush.com or call the Ambush office at 636.477.6363.
